Chef Terrance Barrows made his first meal when he was 7 years old — a spaghetti with meat sauce that his parents say was better than anything they’d ever cooked before. From there he was hooked, eventually becoming a rising star in the Chicago food scene before opening his first restaurant, The Evergreen, in Lincoln Park at the age of 24. But please don’t publicize his ascent to fame — it was recently discovered that Barrows is secretly a neo-Nazi.
It’s true, we did some digging and found some pretty messed-up Facebook posts from just a couple years ago. But the man legitimately can cook. Studying under the tutelage of famed Chicago restauranteur Arthur Collins, head chef of the Loop’s La Guginere, Barrows is particularly gifted at crafting ingeniously innovative American-Asian fusion, an admittedly somewhat ironic talent given his views on racial mixing.
Feel free to read this article at your leisure, but please keep it to yourself.
Barrows now has three restaurants to his name in Chicago and one in Milwaukee, all of which we highly recommend on a culinary level but can’t in good conscience advise you to eat at. We’re serious — Barrows has said multiple times that he didn’t think Hitler did anything wrong. He’s a really scary dude.
If you do dine at The Evergreen though, try the mushroom risotto — it’s a dining experience that like the Holocaust, should not be forgotten.
