We all have those voices inside our heads telling us to do things and criticizing our various behaviors and personality ticks, right? And although they’re all varying degrees of frightening, they each have their own unique characteristics, yeah? Here are seven that we can all relate to, I think.
1. The Angry One
Sure, all the voices tend to be pretty angry. But there seems to be one that’s not only livid but like legitimately bloodthirsty, y’know? I’m guessing we can all identify this one pretty easily because it’s the one that scares us the most.
2. The Sarcastic One
We all remember times when we’re doing something and we get this sudden, clear thought that seems almost audible and it’s complimenting us in an obviously insincere way. And it’s kinda funny except that it’s really mean, right? I’m pretty sure this happens to all of us sometimes.
3. The One That Sounds Like an Older Version of Ourselves
Is it your inner monologue? Yeah, but its voice is raspy and full of regret. And you’re certain it’s your future self trying in vain to warn your current self about all the mistakes you’re making and about how you never should’ve dropped out of college or broken up with Rachel. This is about as universal as it gets, maybe.
4. The One That Tells You Your Haircut Looks Silly
It’s not as loud as the others, but every once in a while when you get a rare moment of contentedness, I’m pretty sure we all hear a voice in our heads criticizing our haircut and saying that people stopped wearing their hair like that in the nineties. This specific anxiety is very common, I like to think.
5. The One Always Humming
No one’s ever explicitly said this to me, but people seem to always be intimating that they’re almost constantly having to deal with a person only they can hear humming softly. And they, like me, find it absolutely maddening. Right?
6. The One That Occasionally Poorly Harmonizes With The One Humming
This one might just be me but maybe not? Please comment and let me know if you hear this one too.
7. Distorted Spongebob
This one might just be me, actually.
